Derek & Megan Miller @MDMoffroad
7amily in the Dirt
Welcome to the second chapter of our Badassador series. This time, we’re talking about Megan and Derek Miller. I first ran into Derek out on the Rubicon. I was tearing up the trail, hitting every bonus line I could find, just living for the moment. Then I roll into Rubicon Springs, and there’s a stock Toyota Sequoia parked off to the side, sparks flying out the bottom. Derek’s standing there, cool as can be, and he calls me over. We get to talking, and he casually mentions that his wife, Megan, is under the damn car, fixing it up. That’s when I knew these two were cut from the right cloth. Real ones.
Fast forward, and we just kinda stayed in touch, trading stories, crossing paths, running with the same crowd, like the Fieldcraft Survival crew. Four years later, here we are. I’ve watched Derek turn that Sequoia into a King of the Hammers machine, built for the Everyman Challenge. And I’ve also watched him get tagged as “Megan’s Husband” on the Hammers livestream. Here’s the kicker—the announcers didn’t even clock him as a past competitor. To them, he was just Megan’s sidekick.
For most guys, that would sting the ego a bit. Not Derek. The way he sees it, Megan’s a 7ucking badass. We’re damn proud to back her as she takes on the races with Derek riding shotgun, wrenching, and keeping her rig together when it counts.Their car’s got its own story too. It used to belong to Josh Patterson, our buddy and the mind behind Off the Grid Surplus. Life threw Josh some twists, and he had to let the car go. It ended up in the best hands it could have—Megan and Derek’s. Since then, she’s been hitting podiums in the NorCal Rock Racing series, inching closer to that Hammers finish every year. She’s got grit and skill, and she’s just getting started.
These two are some of the only folks we sponsor. Last year at Hammers, I caught up with them in their pits. Dust, grease, nerves—you could feel it in the air. They raced hard, finishing just over the cut-off. But damn, they left it all out there, and it was one hell of a ride. Can’t wait to see what they bring this year.
Integrity, grit, and loyalty—that’s what these two stand for. They’re the kind of 7riends you want on your side, and we’re proud to call them family. Follow the Millers as they tear up the NorCal Rock Racing series in their new full tube chassis car. And keep an eye out for them at King of the Hammers, because this story is far from over.
